The management of Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan Sunday afternoon heaped blame on the centre referee from Abuja Peter Shinyi for the team’s 1-0 loss to Enyimba International of Aba in the Globacom Nigeria Premier Football League.
Enyimba now have 22 points from 15 matches, while 3SC remain on 19 points.
Shooting Stars Media Officer, Jubril Arowolo stated that the referee was a kill joy as he awarded a controversial penalty to the home team, while also claiming some of their players were attacked by the Enyimba fans.
“Centre referee Peter Shinyi from Abuja was responsible for our loss to Enyimba in Aba as he awarded a controversial penalty to Enyimba in the 68th minute when Yomi Adigun blocked a shot with his leg only for the referee to say it was a foul,” Arowolo said.
“This capped the hostile reception the team experienced on arrival at the stadium when a section of the fans pounced on our players for daring to walk through the playing pitch.”
“Otherwise, we played well to the admiration of home fans.”
Striker Ifeanyi Edeh converted the penalty to earn Enyimba the home win.
