Emordi: Rangers rose stop Sunshine Stars

The chief coach of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, Okey Emordi, said Sunday evening at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu where his team defeated visiting Sunshine Stars of Akure 2-0, that it was a good game as Sunshine players stretched Rangers players who eventually rose to the occasion.

The former Enyimba of Aba handler noted that, the victory would to a large extent help us in our continental game, as it would serve as good preparation to battle CS Sfaxien of Tunisia in the second leg cracker.

A goal in each half of a Week 15 match played behind closed doors was all 2013 Confederation Cup hopefuls Rangers needed to turn back the ambitious Sunshine Stars.

Samuel Chukwudi’s half volley inside the box after he was set up by Adamu Mohammed in the 37th minute broke the deadlock after the visitors had missed three clear-cut chances with Daniel Emmanuel proving his worth in Rangers goal.

Nine minutes into the second half, Ugonna Uzochukwu put the icing on the cake with a left-footed shot that Moses Ocheje in goal for the visitors had no answer to.

But, Ugonna turned from hero to villain with a quarter of an hour left on the clock when he was sent off for a second booking.
