Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said that as a law-abiding citizen, he would appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Tuesday.
Saraki made this known to newsmen on Monday in Abuja after the Appeal Court had dismissed a suit he filed to stop his trial at the tribunal.
The senate president’s statement is coming after Monday’s issuance of a fresh arrest warrant on him by the Chairman of the Tribunal, Danladi Yakubu Umar, following a short adjournment at the resumed hearing over his alleged false declaration of assets.
Umar had ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, and other security agents to present Saraki before his court unfailingly by 10 am on Tuesday.
Saraki said that he was merely exercising his own right both at the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal.
“Well with the ruling of the Appeal Court, I think based on legal advice and being a law abiding citizen, I will be there. I am not afraid. I have nothing to hide. One was exercising his own right both at the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal.”
Meanwhile, many senators of both PDP and APC thronged the National Assembly Complex to meet with Saraki.
Notable among the senators were the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and the Deputy Leader of the Senate, Ibn Na’Allah,
Senators Hope Uzodinma (PDP Imo West); Mao Ohuabunwa (PDP Abia North); Mohammad Ohiare (APC Kogi Central); Theodore Orji (PDP Abia Central); Abdulraman Abubakar (APC Kogi West); Binta Garba (APC Adamawa North); and Olaka Nwogu (PDP Rivers South-East) also visited Saraki.
Obinna Ogba (PDP Ebonyi Central); Sonni Ugboji (PDP Ebonyi South); and Kabiru Gaya (APC Kano South) were not left out of the solidarity visit.
As at the time of filing this report, Saraki was still receiving fellow lawmakers and other well-wishers.
