Three Saudi nationals, including a captain with Saudia Airlines, have been killed following two separate attacks targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, aviation authorities have confirmed.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced the casualties on Friday, stating that several other people from different nationalities were injured during the incidents.
According to the aviation regulator, the attacks targeted two locations within the airport complex. The first incident affected airport facilities, while the second attack struck an aircraft operated by Saudia, Saudi Arabia’s national flag carrier.
Among those killed was Captain Hamoud Ali Alkalthami, a Saudia pilot identified as one of the victims.
Emergency teams respond after attacks
GACA said emergency responders and relevant government agencies moved quickly after the attacks, evacuating injured victims and transferring them to hospitals for medical care.
The authority said the injuries ranged from minor cases to critical conditions, while the incidents also caused damage to airport property.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the destruction and reviewing security measures to strengthen protection around passengers, airport employees and aviation infrastructure.
Airport operations resume
Despite the attacks, GACA confirmed that flight operations and air traffic at King Khalid International Airport have resumed.
The authority said security agencies are continuing their assessment and response efforts following the incidents.
The attacks represent a serious security incident involving one of Saudi Arabia’s busiest aviation facilities and have raised renewed concerns about the protection of critical transport infrastructure.
