Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, one of five FIFA presidential candidates, has called for Friday’s election to be postponed.
Prince Ali’s lawyers have filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, requesting the election be delayed to allow time for the installation of transparent voting booths in an effort to ensure a fair election.
Prince Ali wants the transparent voting booths to prevent voters from taking photos of their ballots, which could later be used as evidence of their loyalty to interested parties. FIFA rejected his proposal, instead opting to require voters to leave their cell phones outside the booth.
The CAS has said it will rule on the appeal by Thursday morning.
Prince Ali, Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa, Gianni Infantino, Tokyo Sexwale and Jerome Champagne are the five candidates running to replace Sepp Blatter as FIFA’s leader after he announced his resignation in May after 18 years as president.
Blatter’s presidency officially ended in December, when FIFA banned him and former UEFA president Michel Platini from world soccer for eight years.
