Pope Leo Calls for Global Ban on Aerial Bombardments

Pope Leo has called for a global ban on aerial bombardments, describing them as indiscriminate and harmful to civilians.

The pontiff made the remarks in Vatican City during a meeting with executives and staff of Italy’s ITA Airways as global tensions continue to rise.

Although he did not directly reference the ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran, the pope strongly criticised the use of airstrikes in modern warfare.

He warned that no individual should live under the constant fear of attacks from the air, stressing the devastating impact such methods have on civilian populations.

Pope Leo argued that, given the lessons of the 20th century, aerial bombings should have been permanently outlawed.

According to him, the continued use of such tactics reflects a setback rather than progress in global efforts to promote peace.

The pope has consistently advocated for an end to hostilities, repeatedly calling for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.

On Sunday, he described the war as a “scandal” affecting humanity at large, urging leaders to prioritise dialogue and peace.

His latest comments reinforce the Vatican’s long-standing position against war and its humanitarian consequences.
