Nigeria Police Force

nigeria_police_logoThe police on Tuesday arraigned a hotelier, Christpher Akwewambhor , and his wife, Faith before an Abuja Grade 2 Area Court sitting in Kado for joint act and theft.

The police arraigned Akwewambhor, 35, and Faith, 28, who reside at No. 1 Obafemi Awolowo Close, Trademore Estate, Abuja on a one-count charge of theft.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, had told the court that one Dr Williams Owuna, of 27 Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers, lodged a complaint against the Akwewambhors at the Utako Police Division Station on June 22.

Ibrahim said the complainant lodged in the accused person’s hotel called “Hide Out Hotel” in Utako, Abuja.

He said that the complainant in the report said that after checking into a room at the hotel, he went out to buy some items and returned shortly.

Ibrahim alleged that after the complainant came back to his room, he discovered that the accused persons had given his room out to another customer.

“This is the same room that the complainant had paid for. He later discovered that N100,000 was stolen from his bag.”

He said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty, the court shall punish the convict with imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years or be fined or both.

In his ruling after arraignment, the Presiding Judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of N60,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Ado adjourned the case to July 24 for further hearing.
