The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that a total of 15 suspects are now in custody over the alleged sexual assault incident in Ozoro community
The update was provided by the police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe in a statement issued in Asaba on Saturday.
According to Edafe, the latest arrests followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Aina Adeshina, who ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
He explained that a special police team was deployed to analyse video footage and intelligence gathered from the scene, leading to the arrest of 11 additional suspects
Among those named are Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, and Evidence Oguname, alongside several others.
The police said the development brings the total number of individuals detained in connection with the case to 15.
Preliminary investigations, according to the command, indicate that some individuals took advantage of the situation to carry out acts of sexual violence.
Edafe stressed that the actions of the suspects do not reflect any legitimate cultural practice of the Ozoro community
The Commissioner of Police condemned the incident and assured the public that all those involved would be brought to justice.
He also called on victims and witnesses to cooperate with authorities by providing useful information to support ongoing investigations.
