Oshiomhole: Late commencement of electoral process, invitation to anarchy

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, on Saturday, decried the late commencement of the electoral process in some parts of the state, saying that such delays were usually an invitation to anarchy.
Oshiomhole, who spoke at Iyamho, near Auchi, shortly after casting his vote, during the state assembly election, also said that such delays could lead to low participation of voters.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fish out and punish members of staff who truncated the early commencement of the electoral process.
This, he said, was necessary because many people always got away with their crime and mistakes, adding that serious issues were now being taken for granted.
He also decried error in the delivery of electoral materials to a particular locality.
The governor said that he had reports that about 3,000 materials meant for Orhiowon local Government Area were erroneously taken to Akoko-Edo.
He said that it was embarrassing that INEC still could not get it right after the conduct of several elections in the country.
According to him, reports he received also indicated card readers malfunctioned in parts of Okpekpe, Okpella, Benin, Orhiowon, and Owan East.
Oshiomhole, however, said that besides reports of ballot box snatching in ward 3, unit 7 and parts of Ikpoba-Okha and Okada, which he described as worrisome, the entire exercise was relatively peaceful.
