Ballot box snatchers must be prosecuted, says Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has called for judicial inquiry into reported cases of ballot box snatching and violence during the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the South-East state.
Okorocha made the call after voting at his Ekenta Ogboko Ward 002 in Ideato South Local Government Area.
Decrying the incidents which had become part of the polity, he said that the nation would have overcome such vices.
According to him, there were cases of ballot box snatching and violence in some parts of Ngor Okpala, Aboh Mbaise and in Izombe and Agwa in Oguta Local Government Area.
He alleged that his Senior Special Adviser on Media, Mr Sam Onwuemedo, was arrested and later released.
“People involved in these acts should be brought to book. They should set up a judicial panel of inquiry to look into election crisis. It is high time this situation was brought to an end,” he said.
Okorocha expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election in his area, saying that it was free and peaceful.
He expressed hope that the All Progressives Congress (APC) might win the elections in the state, considering its popularity.
He, however, said that it was too early to make an assessment or categorical statement on the election until the end.
The APC governorship candidate said that he would accept defeat if the result was not manipulated.
