Why we must remove violence from our politics, by Tinubu

Former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, condemned the spate of violence during the governorship and House of Assembly polls.
Tinubu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the observation while addressing journalists at Sunday Adigun Street, Alausa, where he cast his vote.
The former governor described the continued violence reported in the South-South as barbaric.
He believed that the violence and threats may have caused the low voter turnout in several parts of the country.
“We have to remove violence from our politics. Election is about people and service, it is not a process of gun, war and violence. It is power by all means necessary that is the cause of the violence and we have to remove that and allow the process to function. We must nurture the process of democracy, respect the rule of law and lives and property of Nigerians.
“The attempt to be governor or control states should come from the people’s sovereignty; the right of the people to choose their own leaders,” he said.
Tinubu commended INEC for the smooth process of accreditation, saying it would boost voter confidence.
“Accreditation has been better than two weeks ago, I got accredited at the first attempt. The organisation of the voting process is commendable. The only thing that we will be looking out for in the future is to help INEC improve as an institution. The card reader is now more dependable,” he said.
