The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has formally installed Chief Saka Awojoodu as the new Jaaran Adimula of Ile-Ife.

A statement issued by the palace’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, disclosed that the traditional rites were carried out at Oke-Emese within the palace grounds. The ceremony drew palace chiefs, traditional priests, and key members of the Ife Traditional Council.

The monarch was represented during the rites by the Obalufe of Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura, and the Lowa Adimula of Ife, Oba Adekola Adeyeye. The installation followed long-standing customs guiding the appointment of high-ranking chiefs in Ile-Ife.

Following the formal proceedings, the newly installed Jaaran was led on a symbolic procession across notable compounds and sacred locations within the ancient city. The procession forms part of the spiritual rites traditionally required for the assumption of such a revered office.

During the event, Oba Adediwura urged Awojoodu to carry out his responsibilities with integrity, humility, and loyalty to the throne of Oduduwa. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding the institution’s heritage and upholding the traditions that define the identity of the Ife people.

Similarly, Oba Adeyeye encouraged the new chief to view his appointment as a call to deeper service. He advised him to collaborate closely with fellow kingmakers and palace chiefs to promote unity and stability within the traditional council.

In his response, Awojoodu expressed appreciation to the Ooni for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged unwavering loyalty to the throne and promised to preserve the customs and values associated with the title. He also committed to supporting initiatives aimed at fostering peace, development, and cultural preservation in Ile-Ife.

Before his elevation, Awojoodu served as Yegbata of Ife and headed the Emeses at the Ooni’s Palace, roles that positioned him for advancement within the traditional hierarchy.

The Jaaran Adimula is regarded as a senior member of the Ife kingmakers, playing a significant role in advisory duties and succession matters. By traditional ranking, the office is next in hierarchy to the Lowa Adimula, who previously held the Jaaran title before his own elevation.
