The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Awomehinde Tope, over alleged possession of suspected human remains, ammunition, and items believed to be linked to ritual activities.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the suspect was apprehended on April 11 in Ile-Oluji, located in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to the police, the arrest was initially triggered by a complaint of theft filed by the suspect’s father, Awomehinde Kehinde.
Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly stole multiple valuables, including three motorcycles, livestock, mobile phones, cooking gas cylinders, and other household items.
Further inquiries led authorities to track one of the stolen items to another individual, prompting an expanded investigation.
During a search of the suspect’s residence, officers reportedly recovered objects believed to have ritual and criminal significance.
These items included a bone suspected to be human, charms, native sponges, black soap, and an expended AK-47 ammunition.
Police confirmed that the recovered bone would undergo forensic analysis to determine its origin.
In the course of the operation, two additional suspects—John Vincent (22) and Olakintan Oladele (29)—were arrested at another location linked to the investigation.
Authorities said the suspects could not provide credible explanations regarding the items found in their possession.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the case.
The probe will focus on uncovering the source of the suspected human remains and the possible criminal network involved.
Police added that all suspects have provided statements and will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
The command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining security across the state and urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
