The defection crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hit its Ondo State chapter on Wednesday.
The party’s governorship candidate in the October 2012 election in the Sunshine State, Chief Olusola Oke, three-term senator, Gbenga Ogunniya, member of Federal Character Commission, Hon Abayomi Sheba, member, House of Representatives representing Okitipupa/Irele federal constituency, Akinyoye Albert, former Head of Service, Mr Alaba Isijola, former Commissioners, Ayo Ifayefunmi, Dr Ibukun Omotehinse, Princess Oladunni Odu, Tayo Akinjomo and senatorial chairman for North senatorial district, Chief Olufemi Omosanya defected with other chieftains to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It is believed this move will boost APC chances in Saturday’s House of Assembly election in the South-West state.
The governorship election is not holding in the state.
Other defectors are former House of Representatives members, Dr Temitayo Fawehinmi and Mrs Janet Febisola Adeyemi, Mr Dupe Ogundiminigha, Demola Ijabiyi, Femi Bello, Sunday Adejuyigbe, former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Olajide Ajana and Chief Jebo.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Oke said the change mantra at the national level must be replicated at the state level.
“The state government spent over N500 million to prevent my supporters from following me to APC but the wind of change would soon berth in Alagbaka Government House as the people of the state are resolute in sending PDP’s government packing from this state,” he said.
