Former Transport Minister and Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ojo Maduekwe, is dead.

A family member said that the former Nigerian Ambassador to Canada was in the United States (U.S.) to attend the graduation of his daughter and from there, went to Dubai.

“He was in the plane from Dubai to Abuja on Wednesday when he developed pains. Immediately the plane landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, he was rushed to the FAAN hospital but when his condition deteriorated, he was moved to Turkish Hospital. He died in the hospital”.

He was 71.

Politicians immediately stormed his Maitama, Abuja residence when they heard news of his demise.

At the residence were sacked PDP factional chairman, Senator Modu Ali Sheriff, former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osita Chidoka, Emeka Ihedioha, Dr. Sam Amadi, Chief Patrick Okomiso, Senator Anosike and others.

Maduekwe was Culture Minister before he was moved to the Transport Minister by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
