Obama: White House a good place to be a dad

President Barack Obama is opening up about fatherhood, saying being Commander-in-Chief has helped him to become a better dad.
In a Father’s Day-timed editorial for Moremagazine’s July/August issue — guest-edited by the First Lady — Obama calls the White House a “bubble that’s hard to escape.”
“That’s what makes the people with whom you surround yourself in those rare private moments all the more important,” he writes.
The dad to Malia, 16, and Sasha, 14, says the women in his life are his “sanctuary” and have shaped him the most.
Citing the long hours and travel he logged while working as a law professor and Illinois state senator, Obama writes, “being in the White House has made our family life more ‘normal’ than it’s ever been.”
The move to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue marked the first time since his daughters were born that “we’ve been able to gather as a family almost every night,” says Obama.
The president says he’s been able to make it to dance recitals, tennis matches and other activities his kids are involved in.
“Sasha let me coach her basketball team — the Vipers. They won the title,” Obama, 53, boasts.
“I even experienced what all dads dread: watching my daughter go to her first prom. In high heels.”
While Obama says “it’s not always easy” being dad to a pair of teenagers, he writes it’s “pretty good to live above the store.”
