The Lagos State Football Association, LSFA board has extended the registration date deadline for the forthcoming Oba Cup.
The decision was reached after a meeting with all the divisional football associations’ chairmen and secretaries held at the LSFA Secretarial at Onikan Stadium last week.
Chairman of the board, Seyi Akinwunmi said the extension was granted after appeals from the divisions for time to get more teams involved in the championship. He disclosed that the closing date is now August 8, while the Championship draws is billed for the same day to take place in the respective football divisions. The championship itself is expected to kick-off in all the divisions on August 15.
He said: “After deliberations, we all agreed that the registration deadline should be extended to August 8, with the draws also fixed for the same day in each division.
Akinwunmi revealed that in an effort to give more clubs the opportunity to be part of the Oba Cup, the board agreed with the position of the divisions to extend the registration deadline.
Also speaking after the meeting, a member of the Technical committee of the LSFA, Gafar Liameed noted that, the championship is in honour of the paramount ruler of Lagos, His Royal Highness, Oba Riwan Akinolu so there was a need for us to allow as many teams as possible participate in the championship.
He said that any club interested in being part of the championship should get in touch with the secretary of their divisions.
Meanwhile, at the last count over 80 clubs have registered for the championship.
