NGX drops further by N301bn on losses by blue chips

Equity transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) opened for the week on Monday on the upbeat note with the All-Share Index growing by 0.32 per cent.

Index rose by 124.22 points to close higher at 39,045.07  against 38,920.85 achieved on Friday, Nov, 29.

The market capitalisation, which opened at N12.448 trillion, rose by N40 billion or 0.32 per cent to close at N12.488 trillion.

An analysis of the price movement chart indicated that Mobil recorded the highest gain to lead the gainers table by N5.46 to close at N119.99 per share.

Nigerian Breweries followed with a gain  of N1.09 to close at N169.50, while Union Dicon Salt gained 51k to close at N5.63 per share.

Oando and Jos International Breweries appreciated by 46k and 43k, respectively to close at to close at N14.52 and N4.74 per share.

Conversely, Forte Oil topped the losers’ chart, losing N5.70 to close at N108.30 per share.

Livestock trailed with a loss of 29k to close at N3.90, while Vitafoam lost 23k to close at N4.37 per share.

Access Bank depreciated by 14k to close at N9.86, while Diamond Bank declined by 10k to close at N6.90 per share.

However, the volume of shares traded decreased by 39.96 per cent with an exchange of 289.09 million shares worth N1.72 billion traded in 4,495 deals.

This was in contrast to the 481.50 million shares valued at N2.85 billion traded in 4,787 deals on Friday.

Wapic Insurance emerged the most traded stock, accounting for 105.39 million shares worth N103.86 million.

It was followed by Transcorp with 42.03 million shares valued at N154.49, while Zenith Bank traded 19.09 million shares worth N407.79 million.

Skye Bank exchanged 12.34 million shares valued at N49.37 million, while Unity Bank sold 10.95 million shares worth N6.24 million.
