The latest entrant into the Nigerian aviation industry, Discovery Airways Ltd., may commence commercial flight operations by December 15, its Managing Director, Capt. Abdulsalami Mohammed, has said.

Mohammed said this in Ikeja on Monday via a statement issued by Mr Benjamin Adigun, an official of the airline.

He said that the airline, being the latest entrant after Med-View Airlines, “may commence commercial operations by mid-December to offer choice of travel during the Yuletide.

“Our Boeing 737-300 aircraft is the first in the series of three aircraft to be delivered within the next one month.

“The aircraft, which arrived in the country from England last month, will be involved in demonstration flights as part of the processes required for the issuance of the Air Operators’ Certificate (AOC),” he said.

Mohammed said that with the arrival of the aircraft, the airline, which was set up about a year ago, would fully complete the AOC’s certification processes.

He said that the airline was aimed at giving Nigerian travellers a good service delivery, while filling the gaps created by the shortage of commercial aircraft.

“We are going to commence operations with three modern aircraft and progressively grow our fleet size to service our robust expansion plans that are based on our diligent study of the market.

“ We have in the last one year taken time to study the successes of global airlines and we have adopted strategies to suit our Nigerian operations,” he said.

Mohammed expressed the optimism that the airline would soon start operations, following its successful compliance with the guidelines of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
