NSC Director-General intervenes for Rugby

Following the meeting held at the Royal Garden Hotel in London during the 2015 Rugby World Cup with The NRFF President ‘Edward Pan Fom’, Vice Chairman World Rugby and President South Africa Rugby Union ‘Oregan Hoskins’, Head of International Relations and Development World Rugby ‘David Carrigy’ and Gilbert Marketing Representative ‘Helen Manufor’, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Dr. Alhassan Yakmut, has promised to partner with the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation’s aims and objectives to sustain its growth.
Speaking at the meeting, Alhassan said his time as the DG of the NSC will give equal and deserved attention to all federations as witnessed during the preparation for the 50th anniversary edition of the All African Games in Congo.

Being a former national volleyball player who understands the dynamics of sports development, he laid more emphasis on grass roots development which is eminent to sports development.

Buttressing his point, he commended the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation for their effort towards the growth of the sport in Nigeria and called on the NRFF President to make available all necessary details to enhance government’s participation in the Get into Rugby programme currently running at a slow pace in Nigeria also pledging his commitment to support the programme.

The DG’s commitment at the meeting led to a likely path way of the NSC and World Rugby signing a proposed Memorandum of Understanding on rugby development, grass root development, administration and governance in Nigeria.

With this latest development, the World Rugby board executive members are billed to visit Nigeria in January 2016 at the instance of the DG for continuous deliberation and physical assessment of rugby in Nigeria.
