The organisers of the 2015 Abuja Guards Polo tournament on Wednesday confirmed the participation of polo clubs from the Argentina, South Africa and the U.K.
The competition would be part of 2015 Abuja Carnival scheduled for Abuja Guards Polo field from November 17 to November 22.
Chairman of the Abuja Guards Polo Club, Senator Mohammed Jibril, said in Abuja that not less than six states and the FCT have been invited for the competition.
The states are Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Nasarawa, Niger, Adamawa and Bauchi.
“As is traditional for us, we have planned to hold a tournament during the carnival and we have invited players from Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Keffi, Minna, Yola and Bauchi.
“We have also invited foreign clubs and some professionals players from Argentina, South Africa and the U.K., to participate in the event,’’ he said.
Jibril said that the organisers would be partnering with the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the military and other individuals to add glamour to upcoming edition.
He urged residents of the FCT to come out and enjoy the glamour associated with polo tournament.
“What we intend to do in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is to bring in some of the traditional horsemen to have mini durbar during the tournament.
“This is expected to add some colour to the occasion,’’ Jibril said.
He said that President Muhammadu Buhari has been invited to join other top dignitaries at the closing of the tournament.
Jibril urged organisations and individuals to support the development of polo in the country.
He said that the dearth of facilities had been hampering the growth of the sport in the country.
