NNPP to Appeal FCT Court Ruling Recognising Agbo Major as Party Leader

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced plans to challenge a recent ruling by the Federal Capital Territory High Court which recognised Agbo Major as the legitimate leader of the party.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said the decision would be contested through the appropriate legal channels.

Johnson criticised the judgment, describing it as flawed and inconsistent with established legal principles. He argued that the court overstepped its bounds by ruling on a matter already before the Court of Appeal.

He maintained that the case had previously been addressed by an Abia State High Court, a court of equal jurisdiction, making the FCT court’s intervention questionable.

The NNPP spokesperson also alleged that the suit was initiated by individuals who had been expelled from the party and were allegedly acting in the interest of Boniface Aniebonam.

According to him, the legal action violated the principle of sub judice, as the matter was still pending before the appellate court in Owerri.

Johnson further claimed that the party was not properly served court documents, raising concerns about a breach of fair hearing procedures.

He noted that substituted service was reportedly carried out at an address not officially recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The NNPP warned that the ruling could undermine public trust in the judiciary, especially as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

Despite the development, the party expressed confidence in the legal process, stating that it expects the appellate court to overturn the judgment.

Johnson reassured party members that the NNPP remains united and committed to its political objectives, describing the situation as a temporary setback.
