As part of its transformation agenda, the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST) has introduced some digital products which include e -commerce, e-documents, e- money order, e-Stamp, e-finance, Property and workshop among others.
This was made known by the Chairman of NIPOST Board, Maimuna Yaya Abubakar, during her three-day working visit to the South-East , Enugu zone.
The reform agenda was aimed at attainment of strategic importance, financial accretion. operational efficiency, and accessibility. She said that the new management of NIPOST was working hard and building new innovations in order to transform the organization . “NIPOST today is moving with the world. The world has moved to digital era. The new management of the board actually found a way of upgrading the standard to what it should be. We are a world class organization, though we are still working on it. That’s the magic. The magic is building innovations, making the services attractive, making it viable, making the services effective”, she said. . According to her, NIPOST offers services such as e-finance, , e-document , e-commerce, transport and logistics in order to diversify its revenue streams. On e-commerce, she said it is an on-line platform in which goods were purchased online. On e-document, people who want to fill JAMB form for instance, or want to obtain passport, needed not to go to JAMB office or immigration office, but walk to any NIPOST office and fill the forms on-line. She added that with various services NIPOST offers additional jobs were created. “If you open businesses, you are opening employment. NIPOST open up businesses and offer jobs. .. On the challenges the organization faces, the chairman said it’s funding. “We generate fund but we don’t generate enough to cover our businesses. We are hopeful that with the innovations we introduced, with time, fund will be a thing of the past”.
