The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the tragic killing of the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs of the Republic of Mali, Lt.-Gen. Sadio Camara, following terrorist attacks on April 25, 2026.
Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, conveyed this message in a statement on Thursday, April 30, 2026, expressing Nigeria’s deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and the Malian Armed Forces. Nigeria also extended condolences to the government and people of Mali during this critical moment in the country’s history.
Ebienfa remarked that in such times, when the fragility of human life is starkly revealed by violence, the bonds between nations are felt most deeply. “Nigeria stands in solidarity with Mali and reaffirms the enduring ties of brotherhood, shared destiny, and collective resilience that define the African spirit,” he added.
The Nigerian government condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Mali, describing them as cowardly acts that threaten national stability and undermine the shared values of peace, dignity, and coexistence that bind African nations together.
“Terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, remains a common adversary that demands unified resolve, sustained cooperation, and reaffirmation of our shared humanity to tackle,” Ebienfa said, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to fight terrorism.
He also reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to supporting Mali in safeguarding its sovereignty, preserving its territorial integrity, and working towards restoring lasting peace and security. Nigeria, according to the spokesperson, remains dedicated to collaborating with Mali and other regional and international partners to address the threat of terrorism.
“Nigeria is committed to promoting stability across the Sahel and the broader West African sub-region,” Ebienfa stated. He further called for strengthened solidarity among nations, emphasizing that the peace of one is inseparable from the peace of all.
