The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has raised concerns over the growing prevalence of fraudulent migration schemes and illegal cross-border activities orchestrated by criminal networks across the country.
Mr. Akinsola Akinlabi, NIS Public Relations Officer, warned that these criminal groups often target vulnerable Nigerians, especially young women and girls, offering false promises of employment, education, and better opportunities abroad. Many victims eventually face forced labor, human trafficking, and exploitation
The NIS emphasized that traveling abroad without valid passports, visas, and proper travel documentation is illegal and poses serious risks. The service also cautioned against accepting unsolicited sponsorships, travel fares, or relocation offers from unverified individuals or agents.
Citizens are urged to verify travel opportunities and recruitment offers through official government channels before committing. Parents, guardians, and community leaders are encouraged to educate young people about the dangers of irregular migration and human trafficking.
