The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and announced dates for resit examinations in key subjects.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr Azeez Sani.

Sani disclosed that a total of 186,291 candidates registered for the examination, which covered 12 subjects.

He said candidates were drawn from all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

The examination was conducted between April 20 and April 30, 2026, and concluded successfully.

According to NECO, the results were released following the conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, who was represented by the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Folake Olatunji-David.

Secondary school principals from across the country and NECO management officials also participated in the review process.

NECO also announced that candidates who recorded deficiencies in Mathematics and English Studies will have an opportunity to retake the subjects.

The council fixed July 22 and July 23, 2026 for the resit examinations.

Sani explained that the resit exercise is designed for candidates with conditional failures in core subjects to enable them to qualify for admission into Senior Secondary School (SSS 1) without repeating an academic year.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining credible assessment standards while ensuring that students are not unfairly disadvantaged.

It urged candidates and schools to follow official communication channels for further updates on examination arrangements.
