NASS invasion: Osinbajo sacks Daura, says ‘DSS takeover of NASS complex completely unacceptable’

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday, sacked the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, over the invasion of the National Assembly by operatives.
To Osinbajo, the blockade of the National Assembly by DSS operatives was unauthorised and condemned it as a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all accepted notions of law and order.

He said that the unlawful act, which was done without the knowledge of the Presidency, was condemnable and completely unacceptable.

A statement by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Media and Publicity, said Osinbajo assured Nigerians that others involved in the act would be punished.

“All persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in this travesty will be identified and subjected to appropriate disciplinary action,’’ the statement said.
Daura was directed to hand over to the most senior person in the secret service.

Daura was appointed to head the agency on July 2, 2015 following the sacking of Ita Ekpeyong by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The 64-year-old Daura had worked in the agency in the past and had retired.
