IG_muhammed_abubakarThe Nigeria Police have established a dedicated telephone line to enable the public to partake in the ongoing investigation into the killing of some policemen in Nasarawa State.

Some policemen were killed by unknown gunmen in the state on May 9.

A statement issued by CSP Frank Mba, the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, on Sunday in Abuja gave the hot line as 07066228200.

The statement also advised anyone with useful information on the incident to reach the police via their e-mail: [email protected].

It promised that the police headquarters would treat all information with utmost confidentiality.

The statement reminded the public that an attack on the security forces of any nation was an attack on the entire nation.

“To this effect, the Inspector-General (Mohammed Abubakar) appeals to Nigerians who may be in possession of information that could aid ongoing investigations not to hesitate in providing same to the police.

“He, therefore, appeals to Nigerians to support the police as they strive to tackle this and other security challenges facing the nation,’’ it said.

Meanwhile, in a bid to assuage the plight of the families of the slain officers, the IG has ordered the immediate relocation of the Force Welfare Officer, DCP Abiodun Ige, from the Force Headquarters to Nasarawa State.

The statement said that move was to enable Ige to effectively and speedily coordinate all welfare-related issues concerning the families of the late officers, including the payment of benefits and relevant compensation to them.

It said that Abubakar appealed for the patience and understanding of families and friends of the slain officers, particularly with regard to the delay in the release of their bodies for burial.

It said that the IG pledged that all the corpses would be released as soon as preliminary investigations were concluded.

The statement said that the AIG in charge of Zone 4 (Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau states), Mr Mike Zuokumor, had relocated to Nasarawa State on the orders of the IG.
