Nasarawa adopts cash payment of salary

Nasarawa State Government on Friday announced that August salary would be paid to workers in state in cash.
Head of Service of the state, Dr Dominic Bako, who made this known while briefing newsmen in Lafia, the state capital, said that the workers were expected to be physically present for the payment which would be made on tables.
Bako was that the exercise would commence next week, explaining that it was part of efforts of the state government to fish out ghost workers in the system.
He said that all heads of ministries, agencies and departments had been “working round the clock” to ensure that the salaries were cleared within one week.
According to him, the table payment method was adopted to fish out ghost workers and ascertain the veracity of the biometric exercise recently conducted by Skye Bank that served as the state government’s consultants for the task.
“It is expected to complement the biometric data capture of civil servants in the state carried out by Skye Bank,” he said.
The head of service stressed that the new payment method would ensure transparency and instil sanity in the system.
He dismissed claims that the exercise was a witch-hunt, saying “there is no witch-hunt; we only to rid the payroll of ghost workers’’.
