suicide_hanged_himselfAN unidentified man has committed suicide at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, said the unidentified man was found dead in a circumstance that suggested suicide.

Adejobi told newsmen in Abeokuta that the command was alerted at about noon on Sunday that the deceased, whose identity and relations were yet to be known, killed himself around the cricket section of the stadium.

He said the police met the middle-aged man dangling on a tree, adding that his remains had been deposited at the General Hospital, Ijaiye.

Meanwhile, the PPRO said that the command had embarked on constant raid of criminals’ hideouts in its bid to rid the state of hoodlums.

He said: “The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, has moved out with his team, in conjunction with the personnel of the Department of State Services (SSS) to identify black spots with a view to apprehending the hoodlums.

“The commissioner believes that constant raid of these hideouts will not give the hoodlums free hand to operate.

“The team, led by SP Ahmed Tijani on Saturday, after a tip-off from the command’s intelligence unit, pounced on criminals in one of their dens in Makun area of Sagamu.

“The hoodlums fled on sighting the police, but a search conducted in a house near the hideout, led to recovery of 20 bags of weed suspected to be Indian hemp.’’

Adejobi added that some offensive weapons suspected to have been used for robbery operations by the hoodlums were also recovered.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police has ordered that the exhibits be transferred to the NDLEA Ogun command for investigation.
