Yusuf, a student of computers studies at Abdul Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara, was said to have slaughtered to death the trio on Friday night.
A family source, who pleaded for anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that, on that fateful day, Yusuf accompanied his late mother to a commercial bank where she withdrew N800,000.
The source said that Yusuf, who was his late mother’s favourite child, demanded for unspecified amount out of the money for private use but she turned down the request.
He said that Yusuf, who was unhappy with his late mother for her refusal to give him the money, mobilised three other friends to commit the heinous crime.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer, Zamfara State Police Command, Mr Lawal Abdullahi, said Yusuf was arrested in Kaduna a day after he committed the crime.
He said the suspect was arrested along with two of his friends suspected to be the accessaries to the crime while one other suspect was still at-large.
He also said that the three corpses and the sum of N800,000 were recovered from the boot of Yusuf’s Honda car.
Abdullahi said that Yusuf and the two friends had confessed at the state CID of killing the three.
He said that they would be charged for conspiracy and culpable homicide punishable with death under sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code.
