Tunisian club giant, CS Sfaxien, have concluded arrangement to file a petition against Enugu Rangers for allegedly fielding an ineligible player against them.
Rangers sent the newly crowned Tunisian champions packing from the CAF Confederation Cup with a 1-0 aggregate score at the weekend, after beating them by a lone goal in Enugu and holding them to a goalless draw in the second leg at the weekend.
A popular Tunisian radio station Mosaique FM, disclosed that Sfaxien are going to file a petition against Rangers challenging the eligibility of goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel who featured on both legs of the third round tie against the Ruud Krol-coached side.
The Tunisians are hinging their protest on the issue raised by a Nigerian premier league club Shooting Stars Club of Ibadan who raised some dusts after the first-leg, claiming Daniel was still their player and was yet to be properly cleared by Rangers.
The Flying Antelopes have little to worry about as they already have an official letter from the Nigeria Football Federation affirming that Daniel became a free agent at the end of last season, having run out of contract with the Oluyole Warriors.
Daniel was the star of Rangers’ qualification at the weekend as his heroics between the sticks helped them hold their hosts to a stalemate.
Rangers have paired in Group A alongside Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia), St George (Ethiopia) and Stade Malien (Mali). Group B has the likes of TP Mazembe (DR Congo), FUS Rabat (Morocco), Entente Setif (Algeria) and CA Bizerte (Tunisia).
