The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has cautioned party members against using his name to organize protests or rallies following the recent House of Assembly primaries.
Obasa issued the warning in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, noting that several protests have erupted across the state since the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos chapter released its list of purported primary winners.
He stressed that it is misleading and baseless to link him to these demonstrations. “On Tuesday, June 9, members from local governments including Badagry, Mushin, Amuwo-Odofin, Eti-Osa, Somolu, Ajeromi, and Oshodi protested at the APC Secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja, alleging manipulation of primary results,” Obasa said.
Rumors circulating on social media claimed that Obasa had allocated N2 billion to organize the protests, an allegation he dismissed as malicious and unfounded. “I am not a candidate in the disputed primaries. It is absurd to suggest that I would fund such protests. I am a peace-loving party member and reject the use of my name to create division,” he stated.
Obasa reaffirmed his commitment to the unity, peace, and progress of the party and the people of Lagos State. He emphasized that his office should not be misrepresented for any illegal or divisive activities within the party.
