The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the shooting incidents that occurred on Tuesday across parts of the state, leaving some passers-by injured.

The announcement was made in a statement on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi. He said Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan directed the Violent Crime Response Unit, Department of Operations, and Intelligence Units to conduct a thorough investigation to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.

Ojelabi assured residents that security measures have been reinforced and normalcy restored in the affected locations. “An intensive, intelligence-led operation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators and their sponsors, regardless of societal or political status,” he added.

The police have also evacuated those injured to medical facilities for treatment. Ojelabi urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while providing any information that could assist the investigation. He assured that all tips would be treated confidentially.

“Individuals and groups are warned against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in acts capable of threatening the peace and security of the state,” he said.

Freedomonline reported that the shootings occurred in Ife and Owo-Ede, with stray bullets injuring some passers-by. The police emphasized their commitment to ensuring that such incidents do not recur.
