The Lagos State Government has sealed a property on Manuwa Street in Ikoyi over alleged discharge of untreated sewage into a canal.

The property, located at No. 5, Manuwa Street, was sealed on Wednesday by officials of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office.

The enforcement followed complaints from residents and investigations that reportedly confirmed the environmental violation.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a post on his official X handle.

Wahab said the property was sealed for what he described as the deliberate and continuous release of untreated sewage into a canal.

According to him, the discharge was allegedly carried out through a non-functional and abandoned sewage treatment plant on the premises.

The commissioner also said the property was being maintained in an unsanitary condition.

He added that the situation had created foul odour, environmental nuisance and possible public health risks for residents in the area.

Wahab said the state government acted after receiving public complaints and carrying out investigations into the alleged infractions.

He urged residents, property owners and facility managers to comply with approved wastewater management standards.

According to him, proper sewage treatment and disposal are necessary to protect public health and preserve the environment.

The commissioner warned that anyone found violating Lagos environmental laws would face appropriate sanctions.

He added that offenders could also be prosecuted in line with the state’s environmental regulations.

Wahab reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strict enforcement of environmental laws.

He said the government would continue to take action against practices that threaten sanitation, public health and environmental safety across the state.
