The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old suspect linked to a N20 million ransom demand and threat-to-life case in the state.

The arrest was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani,  during a media briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja

According to Tijani, the suspect was apprehended during a coordinated sting operation carried out by police operatives following a complaint from the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The police boss explained that the command acted swiftly after receiving reports of threats and a ransom demand of N20 million.

He said operatives deployed intelligence-driven tactics to track the suspect, eventually setting up a decoy operation.

The suspect was arrested on March 27 while attempting to collect the ransom.

Items recovered from the suspect include an HP laptop and a flash drive, which are currently undergoing forensic examination.

Tijani revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime and also admitted involvement in an earlier attempted burglary at a commercial bank.

The commissioner stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos Police to combat **kidnapping, extortion, and other violent crimes

He assured that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest possible accomplices connected to the case.

The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Tijani reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining security across Lagos State.

He warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist, stressing that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to ensure public safety.
