The Chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), Dr Uthman Ajidagba, on Saturday described the local government election in 15 councils of the state as peaceful and orderly.
Ajidagba made the statement in Afon, headquaters of the Asa Local Government Area, after monitoring the voting in five local government areas of the state.
The five local government areas visited by the chairman were: IIorin-West, IIorin-East, IIorin-South, Asa and Ifelodun.
He said he was impressed by the large turnout of voters in all polling centres visited in the five councils.
The chairman also expressed satisfaction with the orderly manner the voters conducted themselves in all the wards visited.
Ajidagba said the election was a huge success, in terms of the provision of materials used for the exercise.
He said there was no record of shortage of electoral materials in all the 181 wards where elections took place.
Most polling stations recorded a large turnout of voters.
There was also the presence of uniformed security personnel, as well as those in mufti, in all the polling centres visited.
Some of the electoral officers who spoke with an agency reporter described the election as orderly and peaceful, while the turnout was impressive.
They said there were no cases of inadequate supply of materials.
Some observers from within and outside the state also monitored the conduct of the election in several parts of the state.
