Britain’s King Charles III has congratulated President Donald Trump and the people of the United States as America marks 250 years of independence.
In a message issued on Saturday, the British monarch described the anniversary as a historic moment for Americans across the world.
He said the milestone offered an opportunity to reflect on the journey of the United States since 1776 and to recognise the achievements recorded over two and a half centuries.
The United States is marking 250 years since the 13 colonies declared independence from Britain, a decision that led to the Revolutionary War and eventually to London’s recognition of American sovereignty in 1783.
Although the two countries began their modern relationship through conflict, Britain and the United States later developed one of the world’s most influential diplomatic partnerships.
King Charles said the relationship between both nations had gone through an extraordinary transformation.
According to him, the UK and the U.S. moved from a difficult beginning to building a close and productive alliance rooted in shared values and common interests.
The monarch said both countries continue to face present-day challenges together while also looking ahead to future opportunities.
He expressed confidence that Britain and the United States would continue to defend shared principles over the next 250 years.
King Charles also highlighted environmental protection, a long-standing focus of his public work, as one area where both countries carry important responsibility.
The message comes months after King Charles and Queen Camilla paid a state visit to the United States in April.
During the visit, they were received at the White House by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
The visit formed part of events marking the long history of relations between the United Kingdom and the United States.
It also came at a sensitive period for global diplomacy, with international attention focused on security issues and major geopolitical tensions.
Following the visit, Trump praised King Charles and spoke positively about the monarch’s role in strengthening ties between both countries.
The 250th Independence Day anniversary has renewed focus on the complex history between Britain and the United States.
From former colonial rule and war, the two countries have built a partnership covering defence, trade, intelligence, culture, climate action and global diplomacy.
King Charles’ message reflects Britain’s continued interest in preserving what has often been described as the “special relationship” with the United States.
The anniversary is being marked with ceremonies, public events and official messages celebrating America’s history, resilience and democratic journey since independence.
