Israel has issued a strong warning that whoever emerges as Iran’s next Supreme Leader will be considered a military target.
In a statement on Wednesday, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz declared that any individual selected by Iran’s leadership to assume the top religious and political role would be treated as “a clear target for elimination.”
Katz further revealed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had directed the Israel Defense Forces to make necessary preparations and employ all available measures to carry out such an operation if required.
According to reports from Iranian media outlets, Mojtaba Khamenei, son of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has been named as his successor.
The latest remarks follow an Israeli strike on Tuesday targeting a facility linked to Iran’s Assembly of Experts — the body responsible for selecting the country’s Supreme Leader.
