Some suspected hoodlums have razed the house of a Senior Lecturer at the Agriculture Education Department of Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, Ayo Alaka.
The incident happened in Araromi, Oyo East Local Government Area, Oyo State on Tuesday
The hoodlums, with kegs of petrol, bread and dangerous weapons, stormed the community on okada (commercial motorcycles) around 11:30p.m.
Said a witness: “The households were already asleep when the men stormed the area. The gate of the house was already locked. It was dark at the time but we saw the hoodlums throwing loaves of bread soaked with fuel into the house from outside because they could not enter through the gate. They then set the gate on fire,” he narrated.
Sympathisers besieged Alaka’s residence on Wednesday.
A blue Toyota Camry car marked LAGOS FST 524 AV and a silver Honda Civic car with number plate LAGOS CW 318AP were completely burnt.
Alaka said: “It happened around 11:30 on Tuesday. We were already asleep when the fire started. The neighbours alerted us by shouting and throwing stones at the gate. It was like a dream.
“I discovered that they set the gate on fire thereby making it difficult for us to escape. We escaped by scaling the fence at the back of the house. Our neighbours rallied round to pull down the gate and quench the fire with the assistance of fire fighters.
“The police from Durbar Police Division, Oyo recovered burnt loaves of bread, keg of fuel and other inflammable materials that they left at the scene”.
