Home-based Super Eagles’ players will celebrate their Christmas in camp in a low key, an official of the team, Mr Ben Alaiya, has said.
Alaiya, the Media Officer of the team, made the remark on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said the handlers of the team would not want anything to distract the players from their preparations for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN).
Alaiya also said that for security reasons the movement of the players out of camp during the period had been restricted.
“Family members are allowed to visit the players in camp but no player will be allowed to go out on any visit; this is for security reasons,” he said.
Alaiya said the players would be allowed to rest in their various rooms in camp on Christmas day as Head Coach Stephen Keshi has declared the day a `training free day’ for the players.
He said that the team, which is scheduled to play a friendly with Kano Pillars on Monday, December 30, would resume training on Thursday, Dec. 26.
On his part, the Super Eagles’ Chief Security Officer (CSO), Mr Abubakar Baba, said that his men would be observing the players and officials of the team during the Yuletide season.
Baba, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), however, said that adequate security would be provided for any member of the team “who may wish to go out of the camp’’.
He said such protection would be granted the player or official provided the movement was permitted by the management of the team.
“’My mandate is to provide the players and officials of the team with adequate security.
“’If there is any request from the players to go out of camp, my duty is to give them security protection provided the management of the team informs us about that,” Baba said.
The home-based Super Eagles are in camp in preparation for the CHAN scheduled to hold in South Africa from January 11 to February 1, 2014.
