Banditry: NAF records successful strikes against insurgents in Zamfara

The Nigerian Air Force says its Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has destroyed a Boko Haram Logistics Base at Kusuma in Northern Borno.
Director of Public Relations and Information of the Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, announced this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
“The Nigerian Air Force Air Interdiction Operation, Operation Green Sweep, has continued to record tremendous successes in destroying Boko Haram Terrorists’ (BHTs) facilities in Borno.
“On Day three of the Operation, the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE destroyed a BHT Logistics Base at Kusuma in northern Borno.
“The Air strikes were conducted on the heels of credible intelligence reports indicating that the BHTs had resumed using the previously abandoned settlement and established a logistics base to support their operations in the fringes of Lake Chad,” he said.
Daramola said that extensive Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions later identified two compounds within the village that were the main logistics hubs in the town.
“Consequently, the ATF dispatched two Alpha Jet aircrafts to attack the settlement, recording direct hits on the target buildings and facilities with huge balls of fires seen,” he said.
The spokesman said that NAF, working in concert with surface forces would sustain the tempo of operations with a view to destroying all remnants of terrorists in Borno.
The NAF through the ATF had on November 14 commenced “Operation Green Sweep”, an air interdiction targeting selected insurgents’ locations within the fringes of Lake Chad as well as areas around the Alagarno Forest near Sambisa.
According to Daramola, the operation is aimed at further degrading the remnants of the terrorists, curtailing their freedom of action and denying them bases from which they can launch attacks.
