Governor Monday Okpebholo has strongly condemned the daylight murder of an unidentified young man by suspected gunmen at the main gate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Sunday, calling it an attack on human dignity and a significant threat to public safety.
In a statement released on Monday by his Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, Governor Okpebholo expressed deep shock and outrage over the violent incident. He stressed that such killings would not be tolerated under his administration.
The governor also extended his condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim. He reassured the public that the police had already launched an investigation into the matter, with all relevant security agencies working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators.
Governor Okpebholo assured citizens that justice would be served, emphasizing that the case would not be ignored. He vowed that the culprits would be brought to justice.
Further addressing the issue, the governor reiterated his government’s commitment to eradicating cultism, highlighting ongoing security efforts, collaboration with law enforcement agencies, and programs aimed at rehabilitating at-risk youth. Okpebholo stressed that the state would not allow criminals to thrive and urged the public to provide any helpful information that could assist in the investigation, assuring that all details shared would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
