rochas_okorochaGov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Wednesday said he was not in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to vie for the Vice Presidency but for the position of President.

Okorocha announced the plan in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, in Owerri.

The statement was a reaction to a report in one of the dailies headlined “APC: Govs Okorocha, Amaechi in Vice Presidential race.”

The statement noted that there has been pressure on the governor by Nigerians to vie for the presidency in the 2015 election.

It said the governor had been consulting but was not yet decided on the matter.

“Against the backdrop of the referenced headline, the Imo State Government wishes to put the record straight with regards to the ambition of the Imo Governor in 2015.

“It wants to correct the impression that the State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, is in the race for the vice-presidential slot of the APC, as the headline had suggested.

“The truth of the matter is that Gov Okorocha is not in the VP race in APC.

“His consultations have not been on the VP slot but on the presidency and at the end of the consultations, he would decide whether to throw his hat into the ring for the presidential race or not,” the statement said.

The statement expressed satisfaction with some stakeholders of the party who met and came up with the governor’s name for the position of vice presidency.

It said the stakeholders must have considered the qualities in the governor and what his administration had done in Imo.
