Paul_OrhiiThe National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Tuesday warned the people against the consumption of a variety of bitters.

Mr Udoekpo Ekpo, the Chief Regulatory Officer at the Aba office of NAFDAC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba, Abia that some of the bitters which had become popular among the people were not registered by NAFDAC.

He added that the agency’s registration number on the products was fake and that the importers could not be traced.

Ekpo said the agency was mopping the products from market stalls to safeguard the lives of persons who are ignorantly consuming them.

He advised the people to be careful with what they purchased for consumption, adding that packaged products not registered by NAFDAC should be avoided.

“Buyers should be patient when buying food and drugs in the market. They should carefully check for the batch number, manufacturer’s address, the expiry date and what the product contains,’’ he said.
