Giwa FC reinstated to NPFL

Giwa FC has been readmitted to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

According to the League Management Company (LMC), saddled with running the top-flight in Nigeria, the troubled club is being restored back to this season’s championship, following an interim order from the Plateau State High Court.

The LMC further stated that players of Giwa FC now with other clubs in the league cannot feature in matches as the court order takes immediate effect.

The league company also stated that “processes to reschedule matches concerning (the) Jos side (are) now being activated as directed by (the) Plateau State Court.”

The case was filed on August 11 against the LMC by one Mustapha Abubakar on behalf of himself and Giwa FC before Justice I.I. Kunda.

Giwa FC were thrown out of the league in May this year after they failed to honour three cumulative matches, following their banishment to Ilorin over crowd trouble in their home game against Enugu Rangers leading to the abandonment of the match.

However, the LMC is taking legal advice and at the same time abiding to the order from the court.

An official statement by the company on its official website on Wednesday read in part that it will “approach the court and have the interim order set aside and the suit dismissed by the court for being frivolous and without merits whatsoever.”

The court in Jos will hear the matter on August 23.
