A diesel tanker on Monday exploded and killed two persons at Bakin-dutse in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Eye witnesses told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the deceased persons were the driver of the tanker and a welder.
They said the tanker was loaded with diesel, but had one of its compartments broken down and a welder was called to repair it.
“While the welder was fixing the compartment, the tanker burst into flames and both the driver and the welder sustained severe burns and were rushed to the hospital where they died,” an eye witness said.
The FRSC Unit Commander in Funtua, Mr Rabiu Usman, confirmed the incident and gave the registration number of the tanker as, XA 224 FTA.
Usman advised tanker drivers to always be cautious with the vehicles, especially when they were loaded with fuel.
