Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful in the state and across Nigeria ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

In a goodwill message issued in Port Harcourt through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor called for unity, peace, and mutual respect among Nigerians of different religious backgrounds.

The message comes as the Sultanate Council of Sokoto officially declared Friday as the first day of Shawwal 1447AH, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan  and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr nationwide.

Governor Fubara noted that the **Federal Government of Nigeria** had declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to commemorate the festival.

He expressed hope that the celebration would bring joy, peace, and harmony to citizens, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or social background.

The governor emphasised the importance of national unity, urging Nigerians to embrace diversity and promote tolerance and understanding in their daily interactions.

He also highlighted the values associated with Ramadan, including compassion, forgiveness, and generosity, encouraging citizens to uphold these principles beyond the festive period.

Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence and strengthening bonds among different communities in Rivers State.

Eid-el-Fitr marks the conclusion of Ramadan, a sacred period observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting, prayers, and acts of charity.
