In a concerning development, a French cargo vessel was targeted during its transit through the Strait of Hormuz on May 5, 2026. The vessel, identified as San Antonio, was attacked while navigating the key maritime route that connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.

The French shipping giant, CMA CGM, has confirmed the incident, stating that several crew members sustained injuries. Following the attack, the injured personnel were evacuated and are now receiving medical care. The vessel itself also suffered significant damage.

The attack occurred in a region known for its strategic importance in global trade, as it is a critical passage for oil and gas shipments. The Strait of Hormuz has long been a point of tension, with Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) frequently warning vessels about adhering to specific transit corridors.

Iran’s military forces have reiterated their message to all ships traversing the Strait of Hormuz, advising them to use the designated route previously outlined by the country. This warning follows a string of maritime incidents that have raised concerns over safety in the waterway.

As of now, investigations are ongoing, and CMA CGM has vowed to cooperate with authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the attack.
