There are indications that some top football administrators in the country are mapping out strategies to stop the planned tenure elongation for the League Management Company (LMC).
Sports Minister/Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi had recently given an insight into the possibility of the Nduka Irabor- led LMC staying in office longer than necessary.
Based on the original plan, the LMC which was constituted to take charge of the league on an interim capacity is billed to leave office next month when an election to bring on a new league management board is expected to be conducted.
However, the minister, apparently satisfied with the way the LMC had been handling matters of the league, declared that he wished the tenure of the LMC could be extended for it to do more on changing the face of the league.
As expected, club owners in the country have kicked against any move to halt the original planned election into the league board next month.
It was gathered exclusively last week that two notable football administrators who were involved in power tussle for the leadership of the dissolved Nigeria Premier League (NPL) board have agreed to come together to ensure the LMC leaves office next month.
It was learnt that the notable personalities, one of them currently in charge of a club participating in the 2013/14 premier league season believed there was the need for them to sheath their swords and toe the line of peace of one of their own to head the league board, than for an external body to be in charge.
”Both men (names withheld) have decided to come together, to work together and to broker peace among other embittered persons, particularly members of the dissolved NPL board so as to build a strong force against the LMC, which is enjoying the backing of the minister,” said our source.
